Most people think life of dentist is between pulling teeth, filling, root canal and crowns.
People have an opinion that dentists do treatments, but very few realize that dentists change lives.
Dental treatment can change a patient’s life.
A proper dental treatment can give the strength and courage to change someone’s life.
Inspired by the movie “The Curious case of Benjamin Button”,we tried to reverse the age of the patient in terms of her smile.
This blog is a story of a patient.
Young and mother of two child approached to treat the dental problem.
Looking at the oral conditions it was conveyed to the patient that treatment isn’t simple and easy as expected.
Patient’s expect and cheap and best treatment option without realizing that cheap and best are market terms.
Initially I wanted to go for Root Canal treatment followed by Zirconia crowns. But,that treatment plan was shortsighted. The treatment plan was made in a hurry in regards to patient’s impatience, after thinking through I made the patient understand, the burden of time given by her.
Phase I – Dental Implant Treatment Planning
“Treatment explained, is half done” is a rule of thumb in my profession.
I spend more time in listening to patient, and spend equal time to explain the treatment.
For long term treatment, treatment planning is crucial for the dentist and the patient.
In regards to this case,I realized that I won’t be able to bring best results alone,I didn’t hesitate a second to get in touch with my mentor Dr.SreeKumar a renowed Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon who has dedicated more than a decade for Dental Implants.
After initial Xrays and CBCT scans Dr.Sree Kumar suggested the treatment plan, but the crucial element was time.
It would take 3 to 6 months for the final process depending on the prognosis.
The same was conveyed to the patient,we didn’t expect the patient to decide immediately.
We wanted the patient to understand if she wants to get the treatment from us,it would take 6months.
If the patient wants quick treatment,we aren’t doing it.
Phase II -The Treatment
After a week, patient accompanied with husband visited to confirm the treatment plan.
Treatment day was scheduled as per Dr.Sreekumar.
Dr.Sreekumar assisted by Dr.Kamini, the treatment was done under local anesthesia.
From the patient’s point of view the treatment is about placing a teeth.
Dr.Sreekumar had other things in mind,he had the vision to foresee the healed bone and gums for restoring the teeth.
Considering the restoration to be as natural as possible, apart from placing the dental implants, bone filing & trimming was done for an uniform healing and tissue.
Thus the treatment phase was done with utmost satisfaction.
Phase III -The Trial
Patient had periodic check up at regular intervals and two type of temporary teeth were given so that patient doesn’t think of hurrying up the final restoration.
At the end of six months, when complete healing and bone formation was confirmed. We decide it is time for the final restoration.
While at the beginning of the treatment it was decided to go with a conventional implant supported bridge, considering the beautiful alveolar bone profile of the patient we changed it to Malo bridge
Malo bridge with Zirconia crowns was zeroed in. Recording smile line, tooth shade, tooth shape and profile, temporary model was made.
After a week with the above said trials,we delivered the malo bridge.
